Washington Park is a beautiful place to ride your bike or skateboard.

It is quite hilly and there are no off-street or separated bike facilities. Plan your trip to the park with the Ride the City map. Download the app! Bike parking facilities are located at the entrance to each attraction.

You can avoid the hills by bringing your bike on the MAX Light Rail.

Please note: Bicycles are not allowed on Washington Park’s trail systems.

TriMet / Light Rail

TriMet is an ideal way to get to the park. Avoid the pay to park fees and congestion by starting your Washington Park adventure with MAX Light Rail. You can even get a discount at the Oregon Zoo when you take transit!

Taking TriMet with your Family

All TriMet vehicles are ADA and stroller accessible. Children under 7 ride free. Adults over 65 get 50% off fare.

TriMet Line 63

Trimet’s Line 63 runs from Providence Park through the park to the Washington Park MAX station.

MAX Light Rail Train

TriMet’s Blue and Red MAX Light Rail lines serve the Washington Park MAX station. Trains heading east to downtown and west to the Sunset Transit Center Park and Ride arrive every nine minutes.

Fun Fact: The Washington Park MAX station is the deepest transit tunnel in the United States at 259 ft. (about 23 stories) deep.

MAX Light Rail Train

TriMet’s Blue and Red MAX Light Rail lines serve the Washington Park MAX station. Trains arrive around every nine minutes from 4:25 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. and connect the park to Downtown.

TriMet Line 63

TriMet’s Line 63 runs from Providence Park through the park to the Washington Park MAX station daily from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Walking directions from MAX Light Rail to the Gardens

  • Rose Garden and Japanese Garden from Kings Hill MAX Station
  • You can also walk from the Washington Park MAX Station to the Japanese Garden and Rose Garden
Park and Rides

Avoid parking fees and congestion! The closest Park and Ride is at the Sunset Transit Center. From Sunset, take any Blue or Red line train going towards the City Center/Gresham for a five minute, one-stop ride to Washington Park.

Directions from Washington Park to Sunset Transit Center:
  • Take U.S.26 west to exit 69B Park Way/SW Barnes Road
  • Turn right at the first signal onto SW Baltic Avenue
  • Take your first left onto SW Barnes Road; then keep right
  • Sunset Transit Center will be on your left

Free Shuttle

not in service - Explore Washington Park Seasonal Shuttle

The free seasonal shuttle is currently not in service for the winter season, operations will begin again in April 2018. TriMet bus line 63 is available.

The Explore Washington Park free seasonal shuttle runs on a loop inside Washington Park, stopping at all of the major attractions in the park. If coming to the park via TriMet MAX Light Rail, catch the shuttle on the plaza level of the Washington Park station.

    Shuttle Frequency

    The shuttle arrives approximately every 15 minutes. It takes about 30 minutes to ride the entire loop.

    The shuttle is entirely paid for by parking meter revenue raised in the park. View the shuttle rules here.

    From U.S. 26 East or West:
    • Take exit 72 for Zoo/Forestry Center
    • Follow park signs to get to your Washington Park destination
    Parking

    Parking lots can fill by 11:00 a.m. on sunny weekends, or during major events. Traffic will be redirected to Sunset Transit Center when the parking lots reach capacity.

    Most streets and lots within the park require payment. Every dollar generated from parking fees goes right back into Washington Park. From traffic management to a seasonal shuttle, your dollars are put to work to improve the overall park experience.
